My Approach
Naturopathy
Naturopathic Medicine, or Naturopathy, is based on the belief that the body can heal itself and recover from illness if it is supported by a healthy environment. Naturopaths aid and support that healing process by incorporating a variety of alternative health methods based solely on the needs of the individual. There is no medical “playbook,” but a case-by-case examination of those seeking treatment. These therapies use the healing power of nature and are the least invasive and gentle to the body as possible.
Lifestyle
At Mark Kibyuk Health Services, our approach is to individualize recommendations so that you can achieve your health goals and feel better as quickly as possible. Does this mean you have to change your diet overnight to something extreme? Not always but if you are in a severe state of disease, this might be necessary. We will try to make the changes small and manageable over time, so you have continued success in the future.
Technology
Naturopathic technology uses cutting edge innovation and health science to stimulate natural self-healing processes of the human body. Naturopathic Technology can be used for body health issues (joint and muscle pains), digestive issues (food allergies, yeast imbalance, heartburn, constipation), women’s health issues (hormonal imbalance, endometriosis, menopausal), mental health issues (depression, insomnia, anxiety, chronic fatigue) and seasonal and environmental allergies (asthma, auto-immune diseases)
What Technology do I use in my clinic?
Tests
At Mark Kibyuk Natural Health Services we don’t guess, we TEST. The human body is just too complicated to guess about ailments and treatments. Using functional labs to understand what is happening behind the symptoms is KEY to creating a plan of action which can lead to success. We pride ourselves on providing the highest level of testing available in North America to properly assess what the underlying cause of degrading health is and recommend the best clinical path forward. We only use accredited medical laboratories that focus on patient well-being, to build strong collaborative relationships with clinicians and advance the science of wellness. Please set up a consult with us to properly assess your health concerns and set up a path forward.
The tests used most at my clinic would be:
Organic Acids Test
The Organic Acid Test is simple to use (urine collection) and is a foundational test that should be considered for anyone dealing with a chronic health problem. Doctors often use this test for people with autism, mental health problems, fatigue, autoimmune disorders, cancer, poor sleep, etc.
The Organic Acid Test (OAT) is a comprehensive assessment for a wide variety of biomarkers related to yeast (candida) and bacteria toxicity – specifically clostridia bacteria. It also evaluates oxalate toxicity, as well as mitochondria function, and various markers for vitamin and neurotransmitter problems. The Organic Acid Test includes a section for amino acid metabolites which can detect inborn errors of metabolism.
Vitamin D Tests
Vitamin D deficiency is an endemic problem and has been identified as an important risk factor in a variety of conditions. Vitamin D deficiency has now been shown as a risk factor for strokes, heart attacks, many forms of cancer, autoimmune regulation, anxiety, and depression. We routinely test levels of Vitamin D3 and instruct patients on how to supplement appropriately and achieve optimal doses. After a period of supplementation, the Vitamin D3 levels are often retested to confirm that the target blood range has been achieved.
Stool Tests
The Latest Advancement in Improving Digestion: Specialty Stool Analysis
When we treat the cause, we can fix the problem. This statement is useful in many areas of life but especially in digestive problems. How do you know what the cause is unless you get a great picture of what is happening in your digestive tract?
Stool samples sent to specialty laboratories give us the best that science has to offer in understanding what is happening in your digestive tract. Information can be gathered regarding enzyme production and how well you digest your food, how balanced your gut microflora are, and the presence/balance of yeast and other microbes. These tests combined with our clinical assessment are the best that science has to offer in truly understanding the cause of your digestive symptoms and directing how to create a plan to improve them.
These tests are helpful for patients who suffer from the following non-exhaustive list: gas or bloating, diarrhea or constipation, cramping, mal-absorption, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disorder), indigestion, ulcers, gall bladder problems, etc. etc.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis
Hair Mineral Analysis is a screening test to measure the levels of up to 60 essential minerals and toxic metals. With correct testing and interpretation, we can construct a comprehensive metabolic profile of the human body.
Hair is an excellent biopsy material. It is easy to sample, easily preserved and transported, represents a soft tissue of the body, and is a storage and eliminative tissue. As hair grows it forms a permanent record of the body’s nutritional deficiencies or excesses.
This information, along with dietary and nutritional evaluations, will provide the basis for a nutritional balancing program to establish and maintain optimal levels of wellness. By correcting tissue mineral levels and ratios with proper diet, supplementary nutrients and lifestyle modifications, many physical and behavioral health conditions can be prevented or reversed.
Genetic Testing
Find out what percent of your DNA comes from populations around the world, ranging from East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and many more regions. Break European ancestry down into distinct regions such as the British Isles, Scandinavia, and Italy. People with mixed ancestry, African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans will also get a detailed breakdown.
NutrEval - A Comprehensive Test for Identifying Nutritional Deficiencies
The NutrEval Plasma® test is an advanced nutritional analysis designed to reveal nutritional imbalances or inadequacies. NutrEval Plasma evaluates the functional need for antioxidants, B-vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, amino acids, digestive support, and other select nutrients.
This nutritional analysis offers insight into nutrient status and allows clinicians to provide targeted treatment for the specific needs of each patient.
The complete NutrEval Plasma offers:
Metabolic Analysis (urine organic acids)
Plasma Amino Acid Analysis (essential and non-essential amino acids, plus intermediary metabolites)
Essential and Metabolic Fatty Acids (red blood cell essential and non-essential fatty acids, including Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids)
Oxidative Stress Analysis (blood and urine biomarkers indicative of oxidative stress)
Elemental Markers (both nutrient and toxic elements)
Adrenocortex Stress Profile with Cortisol Awakening Response
A Comprehensive Tool to Assess the HPA Axis — Stress Response and Resiliency
The Adrenocortex Stress Profile (ASP) provides an assessment of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis using carefully timed salivary samples of the hormones cortisol and DHEA. Salivary testing is an easy, non-invasive option to measure unbound, biologically active parent hormone levels. The report offers an easy-to-interpret graphic which plots the results of the cortisol awakening response (CAR) and the natural diurnal rhythm.
Daily hassles, chronic pain, blood sugar dysregulation, work stressors, and poor relationship quality can alter the HPA axis. Imbalances in adrenal hormones can have a wide range of negative consequences that can adversely impact a patient's overall quality of life. The symptoms of HPA axis dysfunction can be vague and are highly variable but may include fatigue, insomnia, weight gain, depression, GI complaints, and chronic pain. HPA axis dysfunction is associated with many conditions including:
hypertension
cardiovascular disease
gastrointestinal and immune dysregulation
diabetes and metabolic syndrome
depression
chronic fatigue
persistent pain
neurodegenerative disease and cognitive decline
Adrenocortex Stress Profile testing can reveal these HPA axis imbalances and provide direction for clinical intervention with targeted therapeutic treatments such as nutrient support and/or adaptogens, stress management, behavioral modification, and lifestyle interventions.
